This is the official site for the Washington-Lee High School rowing program started by Charlie Butt in 1949. The school is located in Arlington, VA and we row out of Potomac Boat Club in Washington, DC.
2009 Open Houses
Washington-Lee Crew will be holding four open houses this fall for all who are interested starting Sept. 19th. These events will be open to all students as well as parents and you may attend more than one. They will be held at Potomac Boat Club (directions) from 10am to noon.
We will cover:
- - our programs history
- - our practice and race schedule in the spring
- - how our sport/team is organized
- - the equipment we use
- - you will also get a chance to get out on the water and experience our sport first hand.
Rowing will be a part of the Open Houses for anyone interested(students only, sorry parents)
Requirements: Everyone expecting to go out on the water must complete a swim test (sweat shirt and sweat pants are needed and you should bring a towel and plastic bag for your wet clothes). The swim test consists of 3 lengths (not laps) of the pool using any stroke (no time limit) in full sweats, treading water for 1 minute immediately after the swim and finally putting a life jacket(PDF) on while still in the water.
